Your First Visit: Personalized Care Awaits
Your first visit to a holistic dentist feels meaningfully different from a conventional dental appointment. The questions go deeper, the approach considers your entire body, and the treatment options focus on natural, biocompatible materials rather than quick fixes. At Club K Holistic Dental in Springfield, Dr. Joshua Knapton and our team take time during your first appointment to understand not just your teeth, but your overall wellness goals.
We practice biological dentistry because we believe your oral health connects to every system in your body. Your first visit introduces you to this approach through advanced diagnostics, a holistic cleaning, and a personal consultation designed to give us the full picture of your health before we recommend anything.
Comprehensive Health Assessment
Your first visit begins differently from a conventional dental exam. We start with an in-depth review of your health history, covering topics most dental offices rarely explore. You may be asked about sleep quality, digestive health, stress levels, and environmental sensitivities. These questions help us identify connections between your oral health and other body systems rather than treating your teeth in isolation.
We also perform a biocompatibility assessment during your initial exam. Since every person reacts differently to dental materials, we evaluate which options work best with your body chemistry. This step matters particularly for patients with autoimmune conditions or known sensitivities to metals or chemicals.
Advanced Diagnostic Technology
Your first visit includes comprehensive diagnostics using state-of-the-art technology, including the following:
Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)
This 3D radiograph provides detailed images of your airway, bone structure and density, teeth, sinuses, and other anatomical landmarks in both your upper and lower jaws
Full Series of 2D Traditional Radiographs
We use only the best and newest machines to minimize the amount of radiation you are exposed to. We practice ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable), put forth by several health-conscious
Oral
Health Status
We conduct a thorough examination of your current oral health status
Clinical Examination
The clinical examination covers more than checking for cavities. We assess your bite alignment, jaw function, and airway health because these factors impact your overall wellness. Many people do not realize that jaw pain, headaches, or poor sleep quality often stem from dental issues. We look at the complete picture to find root causes rather than just treating symptoms.
Holistic Cleaning Experience
During your first appointment, you'll also receive a dental cleaning that reflects our biological approach:
Cleaning with ozonated water for superior disinfection without harmful chemicals
Fluoride-free cleaning materials and techniques
Gentle but thorough removal of plaque and tartar
Our biological cleaning approach supports your oral health while respecting your body’s natural processes and avoiding potentially harmful substances.
Personal Consultation with Dr. Knapton
A key component of your first visit is one-on-one time with Dr. Knapton. This consultation includes a discussion of your dental history and concerns, a review of your diagnostic results, an explanation of our biological dentistry philosophy, and an opportunity to ask questions about specific services like safe amalgam removal following SMART protocols, ozone therapy, or NAET allergy elimination.
For patients with old mercury amalgam fillings, we discuss safe mercury removal and the SMART protocols protecting you from toxic mercury vapor exposure during removal. If you have gum inflammation, we explain how ozone therapy may help by stimulating your body’s natural healing response without harsh chemicals. We also incorporate nutritional counseling because diet directly influences cavity formation, gum health, and your body’s ability to heal.
The Metal-Free Difference
As the only biological ceramic practice in the Southwest Missouri area, we exclusively use metal-free materials. All our restorations use ceramic or composite materials rather than metal alloys. Metal dental work can trigger inflammatory responses in sensitive individuals. Ceramic implants and all-ceramic bridges integrate naturally with your body without causing these reactions, look more natural, and resist staining better than metal alternatives.
Treatment Planning
Before you leave your first appointment, we’ll work with you to develop a comprehensive treatment plan:
- Prioritization of immediate dental needs
- Discussion of options for addressing each concern
- Exploration of preventive strategies to support long-term oral health
- Timeline for recommended treatments
This collaborative approach ensures you’re fully informed and involved in decisions about your dental care. We strive to be completely transparent about timeline and costs as well. We do our best to ensure all of your expectations are going to be set and exceeded, but there are always things outside of our control that can change these plans. If and when these happen, we will be on your side to make sure all questions are answered and everything is understood. During this phase, we will make sure the cost is explained and payment options are reviewed.
Preventive Care Focus
Preventive dentistry forms the foundation of our practice. Your first visit includes detailed education about maintaining optimal oral health between appointments. Our hygienists demonstrate effective brushing and flossing techniques using products free from dyes, artificial flavors, and harsh chemicals. We offer fluoride-free cleanings using natural alternatives such as hydroxyapatite that strengthen enamel without chemical exposure. For patients who grind their teeth, we create custom nightguards to protect tooth enamel and reduce jaw tension. Athletes benefit from sports mouthguards designed to prevent dental injuries.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Club K Holistic Dental different from other dental practices?
At Club K Holistic Dental, we offer a distinctive dental experience combining both Eastern and Western medicine. We are a mercury-free, mercury-safe, biological office committed to holistic dental care. Our practice focuses on finding and preventing the root cause of disease or damage rather than simply treating symptoms. We offer services including allergy elimination through NAET, ozone therapy, and SMART amalgam removal, and we work collaboratively with other healthcare providers to deliver comprehensive care addressing your overall wellness, not just your dental health.
What Can I Expect During My First Visit?
Your first visit runs approximately 90 minutes, during which we conduct a thorough assessment of your dental and overall health. We take a CBCT 3D X-ray to examine your airway, bone structure and density, teeth, sinuses, and other anatomical landmarks in your upper and lower jaws. We also perform a Vitamin D test and a Saliva pH test to gauge your overall health status. You receive a dental cleaning using ozonated water and meet with Dr. Knapton to discuss your health goals and treatment options, enabling us to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
What is NAET and How Can it Help With My Allergies?
Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique (NAET) is a non-invasive, drug-free method for treating allergies combining techniques from traditional Chinese medicine, kinesiology, and chiropractic principles. Dr. Knapton is certified in NAET and has personal experience with its effectiveness — he sought NAET treatment for his own hands that were cracking and bleeding, achieving results after conventional treatments failed, and has also treated his children for allergies using NAET.
How does your SMART amalgam removal process work?
Our SMART amalgam removal process adheres to strict protocols to safeguard you from mercury exposure during the removal of old mercury fillings. As members of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), we follow scientific safety measures throughout the procedure, including specialized equipment to minimize mercury vapor, supplemental oxygen, a rubber dam to isolate the tooth, and high-volume suction to capture particles and vapor. After removal, we may recommend detoxification support to help your body eliminate any mercury that may have accumulated over time.
